1970
With much rejoicing the Arana Hills church building was opened at 2.30pm, January 18, 1970 with between 150-200 in attendance. Participating in the opening was Greg Thompson, Chairman of the Office Board, Alex Surtees, Director of Home Missions, Gary Staddan, incoming student minister, Frank Ewers, Acting Principal, Kenmore Christian College (KCC). Mrs M E Lemn, local councilor for the Pine Rivers Shire Council, Mr J F Bray, Chairman of the Pine Rivers Council and Jan and Fay Christensen.
Gary and Judy Staddan came to Arana Hills via KCC from El Paso, Texas. Hayden Francis, a student minister from South Australia was also assisting the work at Arana Hills.
In March Arana Hills youth travelled to Ma Ma Creek to participate in the City/Country Youth Exchanges. Ma Ma Creek came to Arana Hills in September.
The baptistry was used for the first time. Mr Les Barker was baptised and within 2 weeks was out visiting the neighbours with dedicated enthusiasm.
In June 1970, the Wilson family also left for the New Hebrides (Vanuatu). Ray had taken up a position at a Technical School in Nasawa, Maewo. In comparison with what the Wilsons had experienced in the previous three and a half years, Vanuatu must have looked like an extended holiday. The Wilsons, however, did return for more after a period of time.
The Hills District was growing fast. People were moving into the area at a rate of 10-15 homes per month. The new building saw the first Bible School Day with 17 non-church parents attending. Phillip Jauncey from Boondall Church of Christ, was the guest speaker.
Attendances: Morning 27, Evening 21. Active members: 22. Bible School and Youth: 130
