Snippets from the Past - 2016 No. 3

1966

In 1959 the first house was built in Arana Hills . The population in 1966 was approximately 1600 and the Arana Hills Church of Christ was up and running, well, walking quickly at least. By December some milestones had been reached. Bible School enrolments were now 30 with and average attendance of 26.
Home Missions, together with a loan from the Church of Christ Extension Fund bought two blocks of land at the corner of Bringelly and Hoxton Streets for $2100. Oversight was provided by the Stafford and Ann Street churches.

The first meeting of the Arana Hills committee was held November 29. The members were Messer's Everard and Wilson from Stafford, Proud and Dewar, Ann Street, Hovard and Fraser, Home Missions as well as Col McCosker.
80 people attended the first Christmas Service in the Wilson home.

For the convenience of the district, the Arana Hills Shopping Centre was under construction. It was opened in February 1967 at a cost of $200,000.
